Putting an enquiry to us

A good enquiry gets a useful answer. Here is what makes one, and what happens to it once it arrives.

The specification

What to include

Nothing here is compulsory. Send what you have — a drawing, a sample description, a line off a bill of materials — and we will ask about anything that is missing before we quote.

About the item

The technical side

  • Description of the item as you know it
  • Size, thread form and pitch, and length
  • Head form and drive type
  • Material and grade
  • Finish or coating required
  • Any standard, part number or drawing reference you are working to
About the order

The commercial side

  • Quantity, and whether that is a one-off or a repeat requirement
  • How you would like it packed, if that matters
  • Your registered company name and company number
  • The address the goods would be quoted to
  • A name, telephone number and email address for the reply
  • Any purchase order or reference you want carried on our paperwork

What happens next

  1. 01

    Received

Enquiries arrive by email, by post to the registered office, or through the form on the contact page.

  2. 02

    Read and queried

If a dimension, grade or finish is open to more than one reading, we come back and ask. We would rather query it than guess.

  3. 03

    Answered

A written reply setting out what can be supplied against the specification, on what terms, and for how long the quotation stands.

  4. 04

    Ordered

An order is accepted only when the written details are agreed. Nothing is treated as ordered on the strength of a conversation.

Fair warning

What we cannot do by return

We cannot confirm a price, an availability or a delivery arrangement before the enquiry has been read — not on this website, and not as a general statement. Any figure given without a specification behind it would be a guess, and a guess is no use to a buyer.

Equally, we do not hold a published range that can be quoted from a code alone. If you have bought a similar item elsewhere and can send the description or the reference, that is a perfectly good starting point.

If the answer is no, you will get the no quickly. That is usually worth more than a slow maybe.
